The Fischersund Music Collective

About The Fischersund Music Collective

Music is an integral part of Fischersund’s approach to scent, both sharing a similar structure of mid-notes, low-notes, and high notes. One of the brand’s signature experiences is the scented concert – a holistic sensory journey. Each concert is composed and performed by the brilliant trio comprised of Jónsi of Sigur Rós, along with musicians Kjartan Holm and Sin Fang. To date, the team has held scented concerts in LA, New York, Cork, Ireland, and Reykjavik.

Jónsi

is a visual artist, musician, and self-taught perfumer known for making immersive and meditative sound and sculptural artwork that explore themes of nature and the human condition. Since the 1990s, world-renowned interdisciplinary artist Jónsi has produced ethereal sounds through an astute aesthetic that combines the minimal, classical, and progressive. Jónsi initially gained international recognition as the lead vocalist for the Icelandic experimental rock band Sigur Rós. Jónsi has collaborated with musicians, visual artists, and filmmakers to create a robust body of work across disciplines. Working with such leading creative figures as Doug Aitken, Cameron Crowe, Merce Cunningham, Olafur Eliasson, and Carl Michael von Hausswolf, Jónsi’s artistic collaborations have resulted in prestigious awards and critical acclaim. Jónsi formally entered the visual art scene in 2018 and has had three solo exhibitions with Tanya Bonakdar Gallery in Los Angeles and New York City. Jónsi has also had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) in Tasmania; the National Nordic Museum, Seattle; the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; and the Reykjavík Art Museum Hafnarhús in Iceland. Born in Iceland in 1975, Jón Þór “Jónsi” Birgisson lives and works in Los Angeles.

Sindri Már Sigfússon

is a composer, songwriter, and musician who entered the Icelandic music scene in 2007 after receiving his BA in Visual Arts from the Iceland University of the Arts. Since then, Sindri has collaborated with countless musicians, including Jónsi of Sigur Rós, Alex Somers, Mary Lattimore, Atli Örvarsson, JFDR, and more, and is a founding member of his band Seabear. Sindri has released numerous studio albums under his solo project Sin Fang to international acclaim, gaining him the 2013 Album of the Year award at the Reykjavík Grapevine Music Awards for his album. Sindri has composed music for film and other projects such as Foscadh (2021), HBO’s Music Box documentary, Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage (2021), the 2022 European Film Awards, and (2023),to name a few. Sindri is on the artistic board of the Fischersund Perfumery and Art Collective and co-founded the Fischersund Music Collective along with Jónsi Birgisson and Kjartan Holm. Together, they help craft the ambient soundscape and atmosphere of Fischersund, thus reimagining the retail space and creating an immersive art experience at Fischersund’s location in Reykjavík. Sindri co-produces Fischersund’s “scented concerts” held around the world. Sindri lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland.

Kjartan Holm

is a composer and sound designer whose textural and layered ambient music has led him to work with esteemed composers such as Jóhann Jóhannsson, Hildur Guðnadóttir, Atli Örvarsson, Ólafur Arnalds, Dustin O'Halloran, Herdís Stefánsdóttir, Jónsi, & Alex Somers. Kjartan has composed music for film and television, some of which include The Darkness (2024), As Long As We Live (2023), Duino (2023), and Verbúðin/Blackport (2021), the latter of which won him the award for Best Score from The Icelandic Film and Television Academy. As a recording artist and engineer, Kjartan has composed music for video games and dance companies, and has years of experience in live music and performance with bands such as Sigur Rós. Kjartan is on the artistic board of the Fischersund Perfumery and Art Collective and co-founded the Fischersund Music Collective, which uses music to tell the story of scent. Kjartan’s former work in co-hosting immersive sound baths with Sigur Rós lends to his co-production of Fischersund’s “scented concerts,” which immerse attendees in the artistry of Fischersund and the feeling of Iceland to leave behind a lasting impression. Kjartan lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland.

At Fischersund, music is used to tell the story of scent. Just as perfume is composed of different olfactory notes, the sounds of Fischersund are carefully crafted to create an atmosphere that transports the listener to Iceland. Perfume, music and visual art work in unison to stimulate the senses of smell, hearing and touch, leaving behind an impression that transcends the physical space–an imprint in memory for all to take home. Together, Jónsi, Sindri and Kjartan have composed 30 pieces of music that reflect the ethereal fragrances and bring the brand to life through sound. Each piece is available in collectible vinyl formats on our webstore or can be found on Apple Music and Spotify.
